Behavioral Health Training for Outreach Workers PROMATORES Program

by FIRST Project | Views: 1089

As promised, FIRST Project is committed to facilitating a relationship between providers of Behavioral Health Services and community outreach workers providing services to asylees, immigrants, refugees and undocumented individuals and families.

The goal of this program is to make available for population served coordinated services that are linked from the grassroots to the mental health professionals.

The Format

There is an initial 4 hour training focused on behavioral health.

This will be followed by monthly sessions of 2-hour durations.

The monthly meetings allow for ongoing consultation between the experiences of the promotores (outreach workers) and Behavioral Health Professional staff.  The goal of these two hour consultations are integration of training.

Because we want to assure that our training is productive we will be using pre and post training to evaluate our training effectiveness (completed by Dr. Oksana Yakushko of the Ed. Psychology Counseling Program at UNL).

Dr. Oksana Yakushko, Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Nebraska • Lincoln will be conducting the pre and post testing addressed above.

All attendees will receive a handbook based on the training.

Training will be interactive and focus on the adaptation of the HEART Model for working with survivors of trauma and torture as well as general mental health topics.

There is no charge for this training but we are limited to no more than three outreach workers from each program and participants must commit to attend all nine sessions.
